Getting married in the canton of Vaud
In the canton of Vaud, the civil registry comes under the Service de la population (SPOP, the cantonal population office), avenue de Sévelin 46 in Lausanne.

- Online form, or an appointment if one partner is a foreign national; next available appointments about 2 months ahead
- Missed appointment
- CHF 75 without notice at least 24 hours in advance
- Wedding venues
- Civil registry wedding rooms or 10 special venues (the castles of Oron, Aigle, La Sarraz, Coppet…), Thursday to Saturday, CHF 1,500 plus hire
- Interpreter
- At your expense, to be notified at least 1 week before the closing interview
- Spouse’s permit
- SPOP, application submitted via your commune
- Marriage abroad
- Civil registry directorate (SPOP), via the embassy or consulate
How it works in the canton of Vaud
The procedure generally takes a few months. Witnesses must show a passport or identity card: a residence permit is not enough. We prepare the file, book the appointment and the interpreter, then submit your spouse’s permit application via your commune.
