Marrying a Portuguese partner in Switzerland
For a Portuguese partner, the birth certificate comes from the Conservatória do Registo Civil and can be ordered online.

- Assento de nascimento em formato nacional com carimbo branco (national format, white stamp)
- If divorced
- Acta de Conferência of the divorce, showing the date it became final
- Ordering
- Conservatória do Registo Civil or online via Civil Online (with verification code)
- Apostille
- Portugal applies the Hague Convention; multilingual extracts (CIEC) are exempt
- Translation
- Required for documents in national format
Common pitfalls
The Swiss embassy asks for the national format: check before ordering a multilingual extract. The document must be less than 6 months old on the day the file is submitted.
