Marrying a Thai partner in Switzerland

Thailand will only apply the Hague Convention from 28 February 2027. Until then, all documents must be legalised by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Documents
Passport, birth certificate (Tho. Ro. 1 or 19), house registration book (Tabian Ban) or Tho. Ro. 14/1 extract, report from the Central Registry Office in Bangkok, proof of civil status less than 6 months old
If divorced or widowed
Kho. Ro. 6 (divorce) or Kho. Ro. 5 (death)
Change of name
Cho 2, Cho 3 or Cho 5
Legalisation
Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs; apostille from 28.02.2027
Timeline and cost (embassy)
About CHF 350, at least 2 months before the wedding

Common pitfalls

Documents ordered in English from the central registry do not need translating, but must still be legalised. The romanisation of the Thai name must match the passport.
