Marrying a Serbian partner in Switzerland
Serbia issues civil status extracts on international forms (CIEC), which are exempt from the apostille. Other documents must be apostilled by the competent court.
- Birth certificate
- Izvod iz matične knjige rođenih on the international form (CIEC)
- Nationality and residence
- Uverenje o državljanstvu, potvrda o prebivalištvu
- Civil status
- Uverenje sa podacima o svim upisanim činjenicama (certificate of all registered facts)
- If divorced
- Divorce decree, or death certificate on the international form
- Apostille
- By the competent municipal court, before translation; not needed for international extracts
Common pitfalls
The apostille must be added before translation. If the partner cannot read the language of the documents, a sworn interpreter is required: a family member cannot translate.
