Marrying a Moroccan partner in Switzerland
Morocco has applied the Hague Convention since 2016: all documents must be apostilled. The Moroccan partner must attend the Swiss embassy in Rabat in person.
- Birth certificate
- Copie intégrale (full copy) in French, apostilled, with marginal notes (marriage, divorce, death)
- Residence
- Certificat de résidence (certificate of residence), apostilled at the prefecture
- If single
- Attestation de célibat (certificate of single status) or sworn statement, apostilled
- If divorced or widowed
- Certificate of the previous marriage, divorce decree or death certificate, and certificate of non-remarriage
- Identity documents
- CNIE (national electronic identity card) and passport, with A4 copies
- Fee (embassy)
- MAD 4,505 (single) or MAD 5,375 (divorced or widowed)
Common pitfalls
An incomplete file or arriving late for the appointment leads to refusal. All documents must be less than 6 months old. Divorces granted under certain forms of Moroccan law can raise recognition issues: we check your case.
